My name is Marieta Evans and despite Theresa May’s best efforts in contradicting me I am a fortunate Citizen of the World.
Yes, fortunate, because for me that means I am a very rich person, as heritage is a huge treasure no money can buy. My soul and my heart are nourished by the combination of having Valencian roots, a Spanish passport, a nostalgic Catalan national feeling, and an English/Welsh husband whilst being a resident in the culturally fascinating site of what once was the thriving, glorious Port of London. The more I know about the Royal Docks, the more I love every inch of my neighbourhood and for as long as I live in London I would not live anywhere else. And the more I know about the people who wandered and inhabited these streets before me, the more I am in awe of their brave, courageous hearts and their jolly passion for life. Therefore, I dedicate every effort I put into writing this article to the thousands of East Enders who lost their lives in the two World Wars, on the battlefields or in the London bombings, and especially to the Docklands women, who, in the words of Allison, were the ones who won the war...
